CNC Wood Machining for Media Wall Production case study.

Oak Veneered Panel Machining & Kit Preparation

The brief & the challenge

Dean Watson is a skilled craftsman specialising in bespoke media wall projects. Like many modern makers, Dean had already embraced digital design tools and produced all of his customer visuals and models in Fusion 360.

However, despite the accuracy of his digital workflow, the manufacturing process remained largely manual. Panels were cut on a table saw, and while the results were excellent in the hands of an experienced craftsman, the process was time-intensive and labour-heavy.

Each media wall requires a large number of accurately sized panels, and producing these by hand consumed valuable workshop hours that could otherwise be spent on customer consultations, design development, and planning future projects.

The Opportunity

Dean approached Sait CNC to explore where CNC machining could add value to his existing workflow without compromising quality or craftsmanship.

The goal was not to replace skill, but to remove repetitive cutting tasks, reduce production time, and maintain a consistently high level of accuracy across every kit of parts.

Our Solution

We proposed a simple and effective CNC-based workflow:

  • Dean supplies us with a cut list generated from his Fusion 360 designs

  • Sait CNC machines all panels in-house using our CNC routers

  • Panels are supplied ready to assemble, accurately sized and labelled

Using a sharp 8mm compression cutter, we machined oak veneered panels with:

  • Clean, tear-out-free edges

  • Excellent dimensional accuracy

  • Consistent repeatability across full kits

This approach ensured the panels arrived on site or in the workshop ready for installation, with no additional cutting required.

The Result

By outsourcing panel cutting to Sait CNC, Dean achieved several immediate benefits:

  • Significant time savings by eliminating hours at the table saw

  • Reduced physical labour without sacrificing accuracy

  • Consistently clean, professional-quality panel edges

  • Faster turnaround from design to installation

Most importantly, Dean was able to reinvest his time where it matters most — speaking to new customers, refining designs, and planning his next projects.
